Transforming a slow WooCommerce store into a high-performance platform.
The Challenge
A Dutch e-commerce retailer came to us with a critically slow WooCommerce store. Page load times exceeded 8 seconds, causing 68% cart abandonment. The site was hosted on standard shared hosting, suffering from:
Performance Issues: Slow database queries, unoptimized images, and bloated plugins dragged down every page load. No caching strategy was in place.
Security Vulnerabilities: Constant spam attacks, brute-force login attempts, and outdated WordPress core left the site exposed to threats.
SEO Problems: Poor Core Web Vitals scores tanked their Google rankings. They were losing organic traffic daily.
The Solution
Containerized Infrastructure: Migrated from shared hosting to Docker-based Oracle Cloud environment. This eliminated resource contention and provided isolated, scalable performance.
Advanced Caching Layer: Implemented Redis object caching and full-page caching with CDN integration (Cloudflare). Database queries dropped from 250ms to 12ms average.
Security Hardening: Deployed Wordfence Premium with custom firewall rules, two-factor authentication, and automated malware scanning. Spam filtering reduced spam by 99.7%.
SEO Optimization: Optimized Core Web Vitals, implemented lazy loading, compressed images to WebP format, and cleaned up plugin bloat. Google PageSpeed score jumped from 32 to 94.
Technical Implementation.
- Migrated to Docker-based Oracle Cloud with Coolify
- Implemented Redis object caching for WooCommerce
- Integrated Cloudflare CDN with edge caching
- Deployed Wordfence Premium with custom firewall
- Optimized database queries and cleaned up plugins
- Converted all images to WebP with lazy loading
- Set up automated daily backups to Oracle Object Storage
- Configured SSL/TLS with HSTS and security headers
The site is now blazing fast. Page load times went from 8 seconds to under 1.2 seconds. Our cart abandonment dropped to 29%, and we’re finally ranking on Google’s first page. The spam attacks completely stopped, and we haven’t had a single security incident since the migration. k-libre delivered exactly what they promised.
